Historical

CECADM is a third category microfinance institution, that is to say mutualist type. It is based on solidarity and equality of members. It collects Savings, grants Credits to its members and offers other services necessary to members for their well-being.

Members of the defense and security forces benefited from specific financial products from specialized financial institutions, notably CADEBU (Caisse d’Epargne du Burundi).

Its closure in 1990 led to enormous difficulties in accessing the products usually required by the military and the like (Savings and loans).

This bankruptcy gave rise to the idea of creating the Savings and Credit Cooperative for Self-Development “CECADM”.

In 1994, another financial institution called CAMOFI (Caisse de Mobilization et de Financement) came to supplement the services of CADEBU but it was not well specialized in the needs of the military and it closed its doors in 1998.

In 1996 the need to create a financial institution capable of helping and supporting the members of the FDNB in their projects was strongly felt. The idea will be undertaken 9 years later.

In 2005, there was a feasibility study of the project to establish this institution;

In 2007, a constituent assembly was held and elected the governing bodies which were responsible for the approval procedures and its implementation with the Central Bank;

The first executives were recruited on June 1, 2007 and set to work to complete the approval and opening formalities of the MFI;

CECADM was approved on October 24, 2007 under the former name of CECADM;

The Institution opened its first counters on November 12, 2007.

The members of CECADM are:

  1. Active military personnel;
  2. Retired military personnel;
  3. The demobilized;
  4. The disabled, former members of the MDNAC;
  5. The spouses of the latter;
    Associations of members and military entities serving within the FDNB.
